**Desert Tortoise Sculpture “Pikai” Finds New Home at Las Vegas Natural History Museum**
LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Natural History Museum (LVNHM) is now the permanent home of “Pikai,” a striking desert tortoise sculpture crafted from recycled electronics. Previously displayed at Area 15 for nearly four years, the artwork was relocated thanks to Goodwill of Southern Nevada.
Created in 2021 by metal artist Luis Varela-Rico for Meow Wolf, Pikai was constructed using e-waste donated to Goodwill. The sculpture serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of properly recycling electronic devices.
In addition to the sculpture’s relocation, Goodwill will present a $5,000 donation to LVNHM, funded by customer contributions collected in May. The funds will support the museum’s educational programs during non-school hours.
Pikai will be officially unveiled at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, located at 900 Las Vegas Blvd N, on June 19 at 11 a.m.
